about

A great variation of the usual improvising power trio with a saxophone in the lineup – because although Yedo Gibson blows both baritone and soprano saxes, he often seems to do so in a way that’s directly related to the textures of the basswork of Hernani Faustino – whose performance here is really tremendous! In other words, this is one of those records that you might look at on paper, see the lineup, and think you can guess it – but, as with the best of the best of free improv, the end result is the real sound of surprise – really wonderful interplay between Gibson’s saxes, Faustino’s bass, and the drums and percussion of Vasco Trilla – as they find a way to unlock all these new sounds in familiar instruments. Titles include “Axis”, “Lock”, “Tooth”, “Pivot”, and “Gear”. © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove,

Two decades later of multiple interactions with Portuguese and international musicians, he’s now considered one of the most intense and solid bassists in the Portuguese scene. ... more
